HELP! Need to add link to an image on the homepage

Hey everyone. To make a long story short, previous people had this site created... and the developer used Silverstripe. I just need to add a link to the cowboy image shown here in the screen shot. I see no 'add hyperlink' icon... so how do I do it?

Hi, I inherited a site that I update. I really struggle sometimes. The previous person editing it has introduced a whole pile of erroneous tags into the Tag Cloud. I was wondering how I edit them down? IE I'd like to remove many of them, and capitalise others. I suspect I'm using an older version and was going to post a screenshot here so that someone could identify the version. But I can't do that. :) Sorry to ask what is probably a beginners' question. I have looked through the FAQ and Googled this in many ways, but don't know what to do. Thanks!

Looks like version dóes actually matter. I tried this in 3.1.5 and it responds with the warning, like in your case, but it then doesn't go and create a new file anyway

Then I tried in 3.4 and that just creates the second file without any warning, which to me is more logical anyway (what would replacing a file do with resized images that were already created?)

In both cases I can't actually find a replace tab. There is a setting in framework/_config/config.yml that you could experiment with (if your version supports it), by copying it to mysite/_config/config.yml (and flushing):

Upload:
# Replace an existing file rather than renaming the new one.
replaceFile: false

[EDIT] And/or, if possible, upgrade :)

Assume SilverStripe 3 (I'm not sure it matters which point version).

If you want to replace a file ("Files" tab, for /assets/ directory), you go to the "Files" tab, locate the file, click the edit icon, select the "Replace" tab, and replace it that way.

BUT, if you don't do this often and haven't noticed/remembered the "Replace" tab, it's not unreasonable to try loading a new copy of the file. That wouldn't be a problem if the error message you got for a clash of filenames was more helpful, but what you see is "File with the same name already exists" followed by a logo-with-text saying "Overwrite".

It's not unreasonable to assume that "Overwrite" means you'll overwrite the file with the same name. That's not what happens. Instead, the file is saved as filename-2, and the original file is still there at filename.

I'd like to replace "Overwrite" in the text above with something like "Save anyway" - possibly with a note that the filename will have a number added. Anything to make it clear to an occasional content loader that the successful overwrite they did didn't actually change the original file in any way.

Thoughts? Are we the only people who've run into this? :)

Hi, I've created an event in my page tree and saved and published it. But it's not being picked up by the calendar. I have put a date in for the event in the page in the event tree. Unfamiliar with SilverStripe and can't find source of footer content to edit it

EDIT: My original request was for help locating hard-coded content that is not accessible through the CMS user interface on a site built by a developer who is no longer in touch. I found the content by downloading site files through FTP and doing a text search for unique words in that content.

For anyone else trying to edit content that they can't locate through the CMS, on FTP look in "/mySite/themes/myTheme/templates/Includes" and check in those ".ss" files.

SilverStripe uses the browser's inbuilt spelling checker (assuming you don't have a dreadfully old version of SilverStripe), so something in the SilverStripe site may be setting the locale to German. If the site uses the multilingual features of SilverStripe, they may not have been properly set up. Another possibility would be that her browser preferences have been inadvertently set to request the German language. These are things that you might want to enlist a developer or system administrator to help you look into.

Hi all, I'm working on a site with a team of colleagues, neither of whom (including myself) are particularly CMS literate. We've all used different CMSs (Typo3, WordPress, Drupal...) but we're not developers. One of us is having an issue with autocorrrect that bizarrely the others don't have. She uses Internet Explorer if that makes a difference. For her, SS autocorrects English to German and we cannot find a way of turning this off!
She also works with Typo3 on the same machine with the same browser and this doesn't happen. When working with Typo3, the system automatically recognises the language she's writing in. Any ideas? Thanks!

Content field has obvious limitations and usually not suitable for home page. Take any themeforest template. Its content is much more complicated.

How do you split page into modules/blocks and configure the page?

1. Splitting the page into template includes and hardcoding content (not CMS way)
2. Using some block/widget module to handle page rendering (please list these modules)
3. Your smart solution (please share)

Hey, I have to do a custom layout for just one page (featuring YouTube vids). This worked fine in earlier versions of the site where this part of the page was laid up as a table, but now I want to make it responsive layout (using <DIV>s, etc). So I'm coding as follows:

Just select the image and click on the toolbar button.

If you really want the right-click menu to work, put this in your _config.php

$editorConfig = HtmlEditorConfig::get("cms");
$editorConfig->enablePlugins('contextmenu');

You will still be able to ctrl-rightclick to get the native browser menu.

TinyMCE problem: resizing images with captions

Hi,

I have a client that has run into a problem working with content in TinyMCE. If you add an image into the editor, you can use the resize handles to proportionally scale it, and this works great.

However, if you add a caption to an image, the image and caption are wrapped in a container div with a class of "captionImage" (which makes total sense, this way the container can be floated, etc). This container receives an inline style to give it the same width as the image, but if you change the size of the image with the resize handles, the change does not bubble up to the wrapper leaving you with either a gap, or an image overlapping the text.

Has anyone run into this problem before?
Is there a way to override the entwine functions in HtmlEditorField.js?

Also, the visual aid button (show/Hide Guidelines/Invisible Elements) in TinyMCE seems to do nothing. Any way to show the divs in the WYSIWYG?

Passing site-wide data to template

I have a page that then has dynamic sub pages: http://hbaf.webranger.co.nz/shows/event/323309
My problem is when I go to the sub page I don't get the Site-wide variables I set up in my Page.php controller.
This is what is set up in my Page.php controller:

I wonder if it is possible to have an image editor like Wordpress, where editor can crop or rotate an image when the image is inserted.

there is an image editor using a 3rd party service like https://github.com/nyeholt/silverstripe-pixlr but that's too heavy for the job. All we need is rotate/crop/flip.

Can't edit/replace images in TinyMCE

Hi,

When I right-click on an image in the WYSIWYG I get the browser right-click menu (save image as, open in new tab, etc) instead of the menu common to all these editors (insert/edit image, etc). This happens in both FF and Chrome (latest versions). I'm using SilverStripe 3.1.

Is it a permissions thing, do I need to edit some file, does anyone know please?!

Sounds like something is taking a long time to run. Make sure you don't do any large database operations or loops which will cause that.

Page class seems to be OK, can you check the response e.g. in firebugs network tab? Or even better: set up error logging and watch the logs, both, your silverstripe logs and the webserver error log.

Could also be an extension that is plugged to SiteTree or Page that is causing trouble, or if the page wants to create a directory in assets but doesn't have write permissions, etc...

If you still don't see any error it might be suppressed (grep for the @ sign before a function call... error suppression is a very bad practice!) or some kind of php error (which would be logged in webserver log or syslog)

Blank screen after creating a new page?

Each time I create a new page, instead of loading the new page, the CMS presents me with a blank screen. The blue panel (pages, files, reports…) is still of the left hand side of the screen, but the rest of the screen is just grey. The new page is created however, I have to hit refresh to see it listed.

Is this normal?

Custom Meta Tags : Closing tag gets stripped

On Silverstripe 3.1, I have a theme with a DOCTYPE set to XHTML 1.0 Strict

As I wanted to use Google Webmaster Tools on my website, I had to add a meta tag "google-site-verification" on my home page, so I decided to add it in the Custom Meta Tags field of my home page.

However, when I save my document, the "/" of my closing tag gets stripped from :
<meta name="google-site-verification" content="..." />

to :
<meta name="google-site-verification" content="..." >

which causes my browser not being able to open my website anymore, as my home page is not XHTML valid now. Same thing when I try with an opening and a closing tag (<meta name="google-site-verification" content="..." ></meta>), my closing tag gets stripped and I end up with only the opening tag (<meta name="google-site-verification" content="..." >).

Has anyone ever run into this issue ? Is there a way to go around ? I guess I could include this tag in my theme's Page.ss template, but I really only need this meta tag for my home page.

Problem Fixed!
Apparently the Blog module was the cause of the error because when I deleted the blog module the Member profile module installed perfectly.

I have it working, finally. I will explain here for other users who encounter the same issue.

The 'dev/build' part described in http://addons.silverstripe.org/add-ons/silverstripe/userforms is not some shell command, it's an url
You need to append it to your site url.
www.yoursite.com/dev/build will build your database.
Then the pagetype appears...

I noticed it a couple of days ago, and it has taken me already to my next issue.
The flush=all or flush=1 urls, as described in http://addons.silverstripe.org/add-ons/silverstripe/userforms didn't solve the issue for me.

I have followed all instructions on the page above, but I am afraid I am missing something again.

Thats very interesting.
The documentation on that form page does not explain that the User Forms add-on needs to be installed.

That should give you everything you need to add the add-on.

Only a few page types appear

Hello,

I want to make a page with a form. For this, I followed the User Help for Content Editors. The form help states you have to create a new page and choose 'User defined form' as the page type.
Unfortunately, 'User defined form' is not appearing in my list of page types, and others are missing too, seeing from the screenshot in the user help.
I got 4 types in total: Page, Error page, Redirector page and Virtual page.

Does anyone know what could have caused this and how to solve it? It's a near fresh installation of 3.1.8
I have only modified a few pages yet.

OK, does your Page have any custom code?

Can you verify that the Bio field actually exists in the Member table in your Database?

I tried the solution stated in the issue and nothing worked.
I did http://www.***********.org/dev/build?isDev=1&flush=all a good number of times to no avail, still getting the error message I put up earlier

Looks kind of similar to this issue:

In this case seems like something on your Page class might call Member before the Member table is actually fysically updated. Does your Page class have any custom code added to it? Did you try a second time dev/build?flush=all ?
