removing white background on $Layout

Hi gang, me again

I have reworked the homepage from the blackcandy tuturorials so that it now has a background image. the layout area is reduced because i only need to insert a SWF file 504px x 94px. Silverstripe has embedded the flash SWF file okay and it plays but there is a white background. I have published the SWF file in FireFox so I know it's transparent.

went to layout.css and removed all background colours from logical divs.

how do i get rid of the white background? very important for the final look and feel.
