SS 3.6.1 assets directory keeps returning to incorrect permissions.

I have a site that worked perfectly on its dev server and then moved to its production server, the assets directory keeps getting its file permissions changed back. Causing 403 errors for uploads (ie I change the permissions and some time later they get reset).

The webhost ran up another clean install of SS3.6.1 on the same server and it had the same problem. You can not upload images etc.

The server is currently running:

SilverStripe 3.6
Apache 2.2 current patch
PHP 5.4.5 current security patch
MySQL 5.5.57 current patch
FreeBSD 10.3 current patch

The host thought they had fixed it by adding:

umask (022);

To the top of framework/main.php, however this has allowed files to upload through the CMS, but it still shows a 403 error on the front end.

Never had this issue with getting SS to work on a server before, so wondering if anyone else has encountered it and what you did to rectify it.

Minimum system requirements for installing SilverStripe v3.6.1 lists the operating system: Server 2008 R2 as an option:

Windows 2008 R2 is in extended support and will cease in 14/01/2020. Is there any known ETA on available support for the later OS versions (2012R2 or 2016) with SilverStripe in the future?

Just a quick question to ask if there's any known issues running Silverstripe on a LiteSpeed Web Server?
From what I understand it should be the same as Apache.

I've just installed and received an open_basedir restriction warning (below) - it's shared hosting and I don't have direct access to change a php.ini file - where should I put a php.ini file in order to change this - in the root or in the framework folder?

[Warning] is_readable(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/usr/bin/pear/Zend/Translate/Adapter/I18nRailsYamlAdapter.php) is not within the allowed path(s)

Sorry for the late reply. Basically the only files that need writing permissions are:

assets/
the whole directory, all files

mysite/_config.php
only while using the default SilverStripe install routine, unless all database data have allready been entered.

silverstripe-cache/
Only if it exists. If it doesn't, Silverstripe will use the default tmp directory for its cache files

In the process of migrating an established site to a new server. I used my SaaS versioning system (Beanstalk) to push the files to the new server. I seem to have run into a problem with ownership of directories and files, and permission levels for certain directories and files. I have shell access to my server and can recursively chmod/chown the directories and files. I'm looking for documentation on which dirs/files need to be owned by the server (or user nobody) and which dirs/files need special permissions. Version 2.4. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Have you tried adding Director::forceSSL(); into your _config.php file.

I migrated a website from dev (http) to live (https). The page doesn't load my css and js. After looking at the source it should it's trying to get them via http. I need to get the by https.

Here is the code in my Page.ss where I load my stylesheets and scripts:

It should return https

I know it's an old post, but is there any update? Has anyone ever tested silverstripe running it's database on a galera (maria, mysql, percona) cluster? At best under heavy write load, eventually HA proxying the sql statements to the cluster?

I'm not sure that partial caching is going to help with the initial latency (TTFB) but I'll look into it.
I've tested it and it runs fine on an alternate linux hosting - which makes me think it has to do with something particular to the IIS hosting setup - I'll talk to the hosting guys about the PHP setup and see if something can be done there.

Not sure if you are already using it but you could look into partial caching which always improves the speed of the website.

It may also be worth mentioning what version of SilverStripe you are using and reviewing any database queries which are run when loading the pages.
SilverStripe does have some debug tools which can be called via URL variables which will give you some more info (debug_request and showqueries)

Experiencing very slow Latency / Waiting Time to First Byte on IIS hosting

Hi all,
(Firstly, I had to setup on a client's pre-existing IIS shared hosting platform, so 'change to Linux' won't be a good answer here - even if it is ultimately the best solution)
The website & CMS are responding really slowly on this hosting. It can take anywhere from 10 - 30 seconds to do an initial page load. After that it has cached the pages and still takes over 4 seconds to process each page load.

The delay all appears to be with the ‘Latency’ or ‘Waiting TTFB (Time To First Byte)’ - not once the page actually starts to load (it’s very fast then).

The actual website pages are light. As a comparison test I uploaded a flat version of the same website (not linked to a database, no CMS) to the same server and it’s really fast.

So is this something to do with processing the Web.config or the initial connection to the database... or something? Any ideas?

Personally I would check the error logs on the server in case it is related to some other issue first of all.
3.0.1 is a old version so it is possible that it relies of features which would have been deprecated in 5.6.

The info I could find relating to SilverStripe 3.0.1 does not mention it's end of life but it is no longer maintained so I would imagine the end of life is not too far off.
I would suggest just upgrading to a newer version because fixing it will be a uphill battle of unsupported bugfixes.

Customer is hosting SilverStripe in shared environment and their support said that CMS is not working with their environment, because of file locking in cache which is not working with NFS. They changed the core like this:

SS 2.4.2 on PHP 5.6

Hi, I have inherited an old SS 2.4.2 site what is currently running PHP 5.3, we are in the process of redeveloping the site but this is still a couple of months out from completion.
Now the current hosting company is going to PHP 5.3 and 5.4 from the server in the next 2 weeks, but the site is getting a lot of errors trying to run on PHP 5.6.

Now is there a quick fix to run the old 2.4.2 site on PHP 5.6? I was reading in the forums about a patch http://open.silverstripe.org/ticket/7737 but it is a dead link.
Is 2.4.13 compatible with PHP 5.6?

SS 2.4 Javascript not working in backend

So I have a slightly odd bug in the backend. I assume its server related as several sites on the same hosting picked it up at the same time. It uses PHP 5.2.9 so sadly we can't upgrade as all other versions use 5.3

Anyway - When you click save an publish, the 'saving..' message appears but it doesn't go any further. A look at the console reveals a reponse is being received, and if you refresh the page the changes can be seen.

Likewise, when adding a new page, it doesn't appear on the sitetree until you do a page refresh. There's no errors in javascript or PHP, so I'm struggling to know how to debug.

Thank you! Our host just pulled the rug out from under us doing an upgrade without informing us and broke a bunch of our older sites. The patch was the solution for at least one of the sites getting back online!

This is strange. Could you check the MySQL log file that is at /opt/bitnami/mysql/data/mysqld.log? You can create a cron job to restart it but it would be better to find the exact problem. Php version is 5.2. I was upgrading it but rolled back to this version. I'm not quite sure how the problem could be with database names etc cause I haven't changed that informatiln in the file. But I'll check those once more when I'll get to computer.And I'll search the information how to get the site running on a local development environment, because I'm not quite sure if I know that already... :>

What version of PHP are you using?

Just some observations, the error message is saying that calling the "addslashes" method is not working because DB::getConn() is not returning as an object so something to do with the database connection layer is not correct (without knowing your project I cant help much further than that). Something to double check is that even if the database name, username, password is correct make sure that the text characters encoding is perhaps correct (something like UTF8). Have you managed to get this site running on a local development environment? Do you get the same problems?

This may not be the problem with SS, but I found this old topic, so I'm asking if someone can help with this. I got this same error that DataObjects have been requested before the database is ready. But with my imperfect english I'm not quite sure what does this mean what's said after that. "Please ensure your database connection details are correct, your database has been built, and that you are not trying to query the database in _config.php. in .../sapphire/core/model/DataObject.php on line 2873"
I checked what's on that line in DataObject.php, and it's just that text what's written in error information (DataObjects have been requested....)
The whole part of that code is:
   public function instance_get_one($filter, $orderby = null) {
      if(!DB::isActive()) {
         user_error("DataObjects have been requested before the database is ready. Please ensure your database connection details are correct, your database has been built, and that you are not trying to query the database in _config.php.", E_USER_ERROR);
      }

If I check my database connection details in _config.php (which I assume means database name, server, password etc.) they are correct, database does exists, but what's that last one, that "you are not trying to query the database in _config.php"?

The problem occured when I was updating php-version, but changed it back when recieved some error codes that I need to search for more information. When updating php-version, I also changed database password, because it was recommended there in services providers information. When changing back the older version I also changed the password.

edit: And when trying to get to the page with mobile phone it says: "Fatal error: Call to a member function addslashes() on a non-object in .../sapphire/core/Convert.php on line 119"
I don't understand much about these codes, when in that convert.php there's
static function raw2sql($val) {
      if(is_array($val)) {
         foreach($val as $k => $v) $val[$k] = self::raw2sql($v);
         return $val;
      } else {

      }

In silverstripe_version file it says version is 2.4.5

The support from LCN is generally excellent but this issue seems to be a real head spinner.

I have received an update from our engineering team regarding your issue logging into Silver Stripe. They have tried to add the "Header edit Set-Cookie ^(.*)$ $1;HttpOnly;Secure" as suggested in the forum you provided but this is not allowing the login. They have also tried making a new admin user and that also did not resolve the issue.

They have done some research on your issue and they have found lots of suggestions about how to solve this but none of them seem to be working. They have provided the link below, saying this is the most relevant thing they have found:

Hi All,

Thanks for taking the time to look.

I run a few sites using Plesk and Odin.
(OS ‪CentOS 5.7 (Final)‬, Plesk version 12.5.30 Update #18, last updated at Jan 5, 2016 06:42 PM)

Since updating the plesk a couple of days ago I cannot log into any of the CMS via www.example.com/admin

On one site the page turns white and displays the message "This form requires a post submission"

On two other sites it just appears not to accept the password.

After many hours tinkering about with all sorts I'm now all out of ideas.

Hopefully someone smarter than me can point me in the right direction?

OK friendly url are running I renamed index.php to index2.php. Only thing is still bad gateway on admin. I followed this tutorial https://www.silverstripe.org/blog/nginx-for-fun-and-performance/. Increased buffer size but still no luck. How can I debug it?

Another suggestion may be to take a look at your .htaccess file (might need the rewrite base set)

Can you confirm if you have the Apache mod_rewrite module is installed and running on your VPS server.
It looks like it is not enabled normally it is enabled via the following command

a2enmod rewrite

Plesk + Nginx configuration

Hi guys,
I just started my adventure with silverstripe. I built new website I'm really excited about this software. First problems appear when I wanted move finished website on VPS server which is running on nginx environment first problem after migration on back end its displaying bad gateway. Second problem url on home page are generated with index.php in the middle on rest pages they are generate url friendly. I've heard nginx+plesk is a pain with configuration but I have no option to change hosting. I tried setup apache but no luck I'm not great with linux. Silverstripe on nginx and hhvm

Hi there, I normally run my SS3.1 Apps on Apache + mod_php setups, including lots of extra modules (php5-tidy, php5-curl, php5-geoip, php5-gd, php5-xcache, php5-memcached, php5-mcrypt). Most of these modules are necessary for the developments I did.

Since I haven't any experience with hhvm yet, my big question is, will hhvm be compatible with these modules, does it bring it's own implementations, how in general do I have to use it? Does HHVM just replace the general PHP interpreter and make usage of all the php5-* modules I install?

Hopefully someone can tell me a bit more about this.
