Upgrade from 2.4.4 to latest release

We are getting penalized by Google for slow site and most of the recommendations are out of our hands such 'Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content'. I'm hoping the latest versions of SS address a lot of these items.

How would I go about it?

OK, this is a lot later then it should be, but in any case:

First I would wait for the first beta version before upgrading a complex site - because untill then the API is still subject to changes. Second there are a lót of API changes, so you'll have to test and update every bit of your custom code!

As to namespacing, I use netbeans and if I type 'Use SomeClass' it will automatically show me the proper namespace...

Upgrade CWP 1.4.1 to 1.5.x

Never had an issue upgrading CWP till now. Trying to go from 1.4.1 to any later version.

Problem 1
- Installation request for cwp/cwp-recipe-basic ~1.5.2@stable -> satisfiable by cwp/cwp-recipe-basic[1.5.2].
- cwp/cwp-recipe-basic 1.5.2 requires silverstripe-australia/gridfieldextensions 1.4.2@stable -> no matching pa
ckage found.

Upgrade website from 3.0.5 to 4.0.0-alpha6

I have a complex website built with 3.0.5 and i need to upgrade it to 4.0.0-alpha6.

What I've done so far

* I changed composer.json with the version I want and run 'composer update'
* I replaced all the old modules with the new versions that support 4.0
* Now I keep getting errors/incompatibilities. When i fix something and refresh I get another and so on.

My questions:
* Have I approched this update the right way? If not what should I do instead?
* I've seen some available tool to namespace classes but chouldn't really understand how that works, so no success there either.

I would appreciate any kind of help here.

Hey Boss,

It looks like you might have copied the cms directory over the top of the old one, without removing old files?

SS 3.5.2 doesn't contain a cms/reports/SideReport.php file as you can see here: https://github.com/silverstripe/silverstripe-cms/tree/3.5.2/code/reports

I suspect your issue is that SideReport.php is hanging over from the 3.1.5 codebase and needs to be deleted - but I suspect you'll get a lot more of these errors unless you remove all the old code and entirely replace the framework, cms etc. folders with the new versions.

Class conflict errors after upgrading to 3.5.2

I have just tried upgrading from 3.5.2 from 3..1.5.
The actual website seems to have been upgraded fine, i can access the website, go around it, and it all works really well... Except... when i go to /admin i get database errors, and when i do /dev/build i get errors about class conflicts, things like:

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'There are two files containing the "SideReport_EmptyPages" class: "/var/www/sites/redacted/cms/code/reports/EmptyPagesReport.php" and "/var/www/sites/redacted/cms/code/reports/SideReport.php"' in /var/www/sites/redacted/framework/core/manifest/ClassManifest.php on line 568

I also get these errors when i try to ?flush=all.

The way i tried to upgrade was to replace the delete the folders cms, framework, vendor, reports and siteconfig. then copy in the new folders.

We have sorted the issue out now.
I switched from MySQLi to PDO by updating the mysite/_config.php file.
This stop the errors.

Looks like a lot of people have ran into this at some point - I see a lot of comments referring to mysqldump being in progress so you may be right. It shouldn't be a SilverStripe upgrade problem, I think.

You could try temporary downgrading back to 3.2 to see if it's maybe a difference in how MySQL queries are executed in 3.5, but I doubt that...

I just discovered the problem. After the upgrade, it seems the file config.yml gets overwritten by the original version of it, so the line that specifies the custom theme changes back to the original theme and my last line that specified my extension to SiteConfig got erased. I also noticed these 2 new lines and wonder if I should keep them:

Here are some updates. As I was working on my new website I just realized my extension to SiteConfig I made last week doesn't work anymore. I had made one just like in the tutorial which would give me an extra tab called "Social" that would contain all my social networks links. It used to work last week, but since the upgrade the tab I made doesn't appear anymore. Anybody knows why?

Despite trying a "dev/build" and also "?flush=1", nothing changed. I finally managed to fix it up, though. As I posted before, I suspected the main controller giving the requirements lines to be broken, so I opened the Page.php file, just switched the order of two of my requirements lines to fake a change in the file and saved it, so next time I ran "?flush" Silverstripe saw a change in the file and reloaded it. Now everything's fine (as far as I know).

I just saw there was an upgrade to version 3.5.0, so I gave it a try. Now my website doesn't have a proper working theme anymore. The fields show up and in the right order, so I guess Silverstripe has access to the database and uses the SS files I made, but nothing is formatted. It's as if I didn't have a CSS file anymore. I think with the upgrade, my Page.php file's controller "Requirements" lines giving the CSS files got broken. Did "ThemeDir()" change?

Hi there I need some help on an issue we have been having since we upgrading from silverstripe 3.1 to 3.4. We also changed hosting companies to siteground.
We are getting an internal server error every 4 hours for about 3 minutes. About 80% of our web page will display an internal server error. After 3 minutes everything will come right again. The timing is exactly at 1:00pm 5:00pm 9:00pm 1:00am and 5:00am.

Has anyone come accross this error before?

I have done a bit if searching on google and wondered if this is a MYSQL bug

you can look at "framework\silverstripe_version", "cms\silverstripe_version" to find the version however you should really be looking at the composer.json used to install silverstripe as this tool should control what is being installed

Can a Verion 1.5x be brought to the latest version and if so, would the effort be in the frame or must any intermediate step be taken?
Specifically, we have a customer who is using version 1.5.x and is now to be updated. Upgrade or reinstallation? What would you advise?

I found the problem was I was using zucchi/editor-extensions modules to allow users to easilt add tel: links to phone numbers for mobile use.

I have upgraded from 3.2 to 3.3 a while back and notice that now when I link to a file the code is <a href=""
I have tried with a new file upload, an existing file etc - always the same. I just tried to upgrade to 3.4.1 and have the same issue. Any thoughts?

HI,

I m new to Silverstripe, I recently upgraded the site from 2.4.5 to 3.0, and then to 3.1, then to 3.2 and finally to 3.4. I have GoogleSitemap module ( https://github.com/silverstripe-labs/silverstripe-googlesitemaps), which doesn't seem to work in version 3.4.

Browsing, http://www.examplesite.com/sitemap.xml?flush=1, gives an error

[User Error] Uncaught Exception: Object->__call(): the method 'setsession' does not exist on 'GoogleSitemap'
GET /sitemap.xml?flush=1
Line 743 in D:\server\www\ss_website\framework\core\Object.php

Is there any fix for this??

Good to hear it's working. Might have just been a problem with a file during FTP. You could look into using Git post-receive hooks to do you deploys (depends if you're using share hosting or a Virtual Private Server or similar). See http://krisjordan.com/essays/setting-up-push-to-deploy-with-git

Hi Cam. Updated local site using composer -- only deployment method I know is FTP. So I cleaned out root directory on server, uploaded everything again including a new copy of DB and site fired up this time. Had considered uploading Silverstripe .ZIP and unzipping on server but decided to match my local configuration. Would be great to know a more reliable method but at least we're going.

Upgraded my website to SS 3.4.0 today. It took a couple of ?flush=all, a /dev/build/ and a few kicks but the local environment was up and running fairly easily. So I decided to push site to live server -- and now I have a 'white screen of death'. No Admin, no Messages, Nothing, Nyet and Nada.

Remove 'index.php' from all site urls - .htaccess creating havoc

We just upgraded http://e-lumini.com to the latest Silverstripe version through Composer but something seem to have gone wrong with our .htaccess file. Currently, all urls contain the 'index.php' string which we don't want.

Weird GridField error when editing and trying to save

Have been pulling my hair out trying to upgrade a silverstripe 3.1.13 site to 3.2.0.

When trying to save a record I get the following error message:
ERROR [User Error]: Uncaught Exception: Object->__call(): the method 'redirectback' does not exist on
'GridFieldDetailForm_ItemRequest'

Some times it is Bad Request.

Followed upgrade guide and fixed all changes etc.

Works fine in version 3.1.9, but this issue happens on version 3.2.0 and above.

From comparing to records side by side in phpmyadmin, it appears to have something to do with the securityid being different or incorrect. If I paste a securityid from a working record, then it updates fine! Changed a securityid slightly and it will not update.

Any ideas why this would be?

Page Hiding from Navigation functionality not working

Hi All,

We upgrade our version from 3.1.6, to 3.2.0

After upgrading the same, we notice one issue. I am unable to hide the pages from the navigation.

Previously i used to un-check the boxes of "Show in menus?" and "Show in search?" from the "Visibility"...But now I am doing the same but page still showing in the navigation menu..

I had check to flush the cache as well...

Please advise how would I able to resolve this issue.

I've the same issue when I try to upgrade from 3.1.12 to 3.1.18!
This seems to be a bug related to changes committed here: https://github.com/silverstripe/silverstripe-framework/pull/4202

It looks like that if there are files in the root of the assets tree (and maybe some other factors), this error occurs.

I should start doing this as well (upgrade from 2.4.5), but I'm little worried about all the stuff about the upgrade thing, because the site of course is online all the time, so I wouldn't want it do go down when some possible problems occur, so I don't know what would be the best time for the upgration. Also the language is a little problem when English isn't my best language, so it's quite hard to follow the instructions in English. There is at least dataobject manager and uploadify modules in there, so I've to start reading which part to start upgrading before the other (if there's upgrades for the modules) and weather there's something with the php version as well (in between which stages the php version should be upgraded to get everything running all the time)

The site running with SS is in the root directory and there's other site with the other system in the subfolder. Does the upgrade affect to that subfolder or does it stay untouched?

My provider states that the problem indicates a php error concerning :
There are two files containing the "_database" class fam/framework/thirdparty/jstree/_demo/_inc/class._database.php fam/framework/thirdparty/jstree/_demo/_inc/class._database_i.php

So i am stuck with a not completed installation

You should really be testing this upgrade on a localhost development environment before upgrading live.

Hi I am unable to upgrade on a live database. On top off the install screen i get the message ' Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in ..../framework/dev/install/MySQLDatabaseConfigurationHelper.php on line 71'. Install complains about a non existing database. Version 3.1 worked perfect.

Hi Bekkevos,

You can get more information on internal server errors from your PHP Error logs.
Also try adding "?isDev=1" to the address in the address bar and reload the page.

Lastly you could look at the network tab in chrome or firebug, you should see the error in there.

I am still in the process of migrating this website. Some page types on the test environment are giving a 'Internal Server Error' inside the CMS.

Hi Helen,

thank you for your reply. I'm definitely not loading these images to a grid field. The error occurs when the default asset management of the CMS gets called. There is no custom code in it as far as I can see. The class Image is the one provided by the framework.

Hi Jens,

Do you have more info on the error?

I have only found one other person who has mentioned this error, it seems to be in releation to old code when upgrading.
Looks like something to do with loading images into/through a gridfield... Does that sound like anything?

Hi everybody,

after I finally managed to upgrade a rather old site to 3.2.1 I'm still facing an issue with the assets admin. I always get the following error message when calling /admin/assets/:

Error at framework/core/Object.php line 739: Uncaught Exception: Object->__call(): the method 'numchildfolders' does not exist on 'Image' (http://www.diakonischeswerk.de/admin/assets/)

Any ideas on that? It seems pretty obvious that an Image doesn't have child folders, but why is that method called?

Cheers Dave.m, To me this seems to be that the https://github.com/unclecheese/silverstripe-bootstrap-forms module itself doesn't (at least yet) support use with the latest version of UserForms. I'd suggest raising an issue there with the maintainer of that module (UncleCheese). You could also look to fork that module, improve it to suit your needs and then offer the fix back as a Pull Request to the original module.

Hey Dave, do you know which version of the bootstrap forms module you are using? Perhaps paste in your composer.json requirements (if you are using composer?) so someone can test and confirm.
