I've installed the multisite extension on SS3. It's working fine from what i can see in the CMS. I struggling to see how this actually works. Not a lot of documentation out there as to how it should work.

I have a dropdown and i can create another subsite. How do i test/view it? I would like to have 1 instance of SS with a few microsites running off the same CMS.

Is this what this module does?

Are you using the subsites module or the multisites module (https://github.com/sheadawson/silverstripe-multisites). They both achieve a similar end goal, but go about things very differently.

Hmmm.... what does each one do differently then?

The Multisites module actually adds objects into the site tree that represent the website. Editors are fully aware of all the different "sites" being managed in the system, and there's never any session based tracking of which 'site' you're currently in, it works purely off the current URL.

The Subsites module will try and make it appear that the silverstripe instance is just one single site, ie in the CMS admin view, you only see content from the 'current' site. You can change which site you're viewing, but the admin view appears as though you're just managing a single site.

So has anyone got the multisites module( not subsisted) working?
As I can't seem to get it working.
Can anyone help?
Cheers

What problem do you seem to be having? After installing the module, you should have an "Add site" button in your CMS - these can be added at the top level of the tree, with pages added beneath. You'll need to assign a separate hostname to each site - if you're developing locally, you can use localhost for one, 127.0.0.1 for the other, or use some fake hostnames entered in your hosts file.

Hi Marcus
Installation go's fine.
I can see everything in the CMS area.
I set up the sites and not sure where to go from there.
I set up a site with host name test.domain.co.uk
Create sub domain And point it at the root folder but just get page error.
Hope this makes sense
Thanks
