When I click on a date in the archive widget in the blog I get:
Website Error
Forbidden
The website server has not been able to respond to your request.
Any ideas whats causing this?

First step is to turn on devmode when this happens so you can see the actual error - http://doc.silverstripe.org/doku.php?id=debugging#dev_mode but I think your issue a known bug with the dates and the allowed actions - in this case you probably want to try downloading a more recent version and trying that - http://open.silverstripe.com/changeset/latest/modules/blog/branches/0.3?old_path=/&filename=/blog/&format=zip
