This could be the bug that cropped up in 2.4.4 - http://open.silverstripe.org/ticket/6304
Pretty major so will be in 2.4.5.
When will be 2.4.5 released?
The core developers don't commit dates to releases as it depends on who is available and if someone is holding something up!
You can follow the milestone at http://open.silverstripe.org/milestone/2.4.5. In the mean time you can svn checkout branches/2.4 to get the latest patched versions
