Call me stupid, but the framework and cms silverstripe_version files are always empty when cloning from git and also when using composer.
As such the version number never appears when hovering over the silverstripe admin icon. Since this functionality is built in and quite comforting I was wondering how one is supposed to get it to happen.

I found this in github https://github.com/silverstripe/silverstripe-cms/pull/289 but I dont think its been pulled anywhere.
